Super day at LKA, so much room to move and enjoy the show topped off by Isla taking the RCC. Both Isla and Badger showed so well , proud of our little Skyes. Badger 's class was a really good one so can't complain about bringing up the rear. Lovely way to end the Show Year. Many thanks to our judge Mr. Harold Gay (Malsville).
Not one of our most memorable shows. A busy crowded hall isn't the best place to be when harbouring a nasty bug but Hal and Fern showed well and the atmosphere was friendly as always and full of Xmas spirit (literally!) Four celebratory parties plus the usual Xmas offerings from the Club all added to the party atmosphere. Particularly pleased with Hal who seemed to really enjoy his time in the ring. He is such a sweet lad. Fern was unplaced today but never lets us down. Our judges for the day were : Paula Brooks (Fraglestone) judging dogs and Glenda O'Connell ( Atherleigh) judging bitches.

While we were working hard keeping Rhyl Canine Society's Open show running smoothly Shona and Fran were making us very proud by taking BIS under breed specialist Mrs. Sarah Ritchie ( Cheryshd). Absolutely delighted , just wish we could have been there to see them .
Another long journey but worth it . Fern headed a big quality Limit class so we were very proud of her. Our judge was Mr. Keith Derry ( Vistca) who we thank for a lovely day.
Beardies 1 Skyes 1 ! Not much breed competition! We thought Scarlett might need a reminder about showing as she hasn't been anywhere for ages , still waiting for her new jacket, but she didn't. She takes everything in her stride and was awarded a very creditable G4 from breed specialist Mrs. Cath Moffatt (Kyleca) . Isla also showed well under Terrier judge Mr. Paul Richardson ( Weisel).
The long journey south to this well run, friendly show was worth the effort as Hal gained his final 2 points for his Junior Warrant. He was a star bless him. Our judge for the day was breed specialist Jane Palmer ( Woodacre) to whom we extend our heartfelt thanks for her awards. Scarlett was entered here as well!
Well there was only one class so Hal jumped up to Open and there were 6 in the class so he gained a point towards his Junior Warrant. Nice show and very local which is always a bonus. Thank you to our judge who was Mrs. Ann Brown (Zodantta). Scarlett was entered but had decided to come into season instead!
A flat tyre isn't the best start to a long journey but after a quick car swop we were on our way in the fog to what was a very friendly well run show . The dogs both showed to the best of their ability and we enjoyed the day regardless. Our judge for the day was again Mrs. Margaret Macdonald Cross ( Tarskavaig) who was sadly completing her final judging appointment for Bearded collies. Mrs. Macdonald Cross has a long association with the Club for which they kindly honoured her with a lovely gift .Hal has also completed the final journey through his puppy classes .We are so proud of his achievements but he will now be joining the Juniors at his next show!

One of those days we will not forget! Lovely friendly show , great catering service and a hall full of gorgeous Skyes. So proud of both our dogs but particularly delighted with Isla and to have received such a high honour from a judge steeped in the history of the breed was the icing on the cake. Many thanks to Mrs. Margaret Macdonald Cross (Tarskavaig) for a fabulous day and some lovely gifts to all the winners. Thank you also to Jane Maxwell (Bardrestan) who judged the Specials classes during the lunch break; not forgetting Gail Marshall (Glorfindel ) without whom there would be no Badger or Isla!
Really enjoyed this show . With sunshine , a party and good company how could we not? . Fern and Hal didn't let us down and were rewarded well for their efforts. Our judges today were breed specialist Mr. Rob Ballantyne ( Bustroc) and all rounder Mr. Paul Harding (Pringham).

Wow, these are the days that make it all worthwhile! What more can I say ? It was a long trip but what a fabulous memory , all 3 were stars . Thought Fern may be tired in the Group but she woke up and flew! So pleased she was shortlisted. Many , many thanks to our judges Breed specialists Mrs. Lynn Dumbrell ( Bethlyntee) judging Beardies and Maud Hawkes judging Skyes. Isla was particularly proud to see her dad go BOB and also shortlisted in the Group.
What a busy day! Between grooming , showing and photgraphing we were exhausted by the time we got home but we were once again so pleased with the performance of all the dogs ( apart from Hunter who seems to think he is on a jolly at a show!) .It's nice to think Hunter is enjoying his day out but it does nothing for Sarah's nerves! Shona was shown by Tony as her mum was out of the country judging Australian Shepherds and she is such a good girl. She went well and was rewarded with a good placing in a quality class. Delighted with Fern who was the star of the day. Hal seems to be the 2nd best dog in the country at the moment! He's consistent at least. Thank you to our judge breed specialist Dr. Margaret Buckley (Holtend).
From one Country to another in one week! Our judge today was all rounder Mr. John Walsh ( Joshren).
We may not have covered ourselves in glory but we couldn't have asked more of Badger and Isla and we enjoyed the show , nice relaxed day meeting up with friends and acquaintances in different breeds.

Determined to challenge Hunter's exuberance we took him to another show ( while his Rock Chick mum was still enjoying herself somewhere in Derbyshire !) and whilst he was still full of the joys he did manage to catch the eye of the judges and bring home a fair few rosettes. Nice day in good company. Thanks to our judges : Angela Jones (Bellaronze) for the Breed and Joe Chorley for the Groups.

As Hunter was staying with us for a week while mum was off enjoying herself at a music festival we thought we would give him some 1 to 1 time so took him on his own to this lovely show set in the heart of the Peak District. The scenery is stunning but the journey is a bit tedious as the roads are definately not in a straight line or level! Hunter coped really well and arrived looking quite presentable (doesn't take after his dad!!). He was delighted with the expanse of grass and the amount of friends he was there to meet and greet! His exuberance doesn't exactly enhance his outline on the move so we entered him in 2 classes at the Companion dog show to try to contain some of that energy and he was a creditable 2nd in a big puppy class and 1st in AV Pastoral. Considering we left the house at 7am and didn't enter the Puppy Group until after 5pm we though he may have lost a little sparkle but his energy knows no bounds! Despite his enthusiasm he was placed 4th in a lovely Group of Puppies. This show always attracts some super dogs.
Many thanks to our breed judge Mrs. Shelagh Needham (Oscarlusion) and our Group judge Mrs. Rae Parry ( Gwynsias).

Midshires has to be one of the best shows of the year having a great venue to stage a friendly and well run show it reminds us of Ireland. Gazebo's and tents flank the rings and this year there was a hefty sprinkling of our Contintental friends exhibiting adding to the Summer Garden Party atmosphere. We were delighted with our results and the dogs enjoyed their day more than usual as they have a huge field to stretch their legs on before showing and then again after to let off steam and meet up with friends.
Many thanks to our judges, both breed specialists : Mrs. Sue Carter ( Woodacre) judging the dogs and Mr. Tony Bush ( Manortonway) judging the bitches. Thanks also to the hard working committee for staging such a lovely show.

Not too far to travel but had to be up and out early to assist Sarah with Hunter who hasn't been anywhere for a while and has forgotten all he ever knew! took a while but we eventually managed to remind him he had to pay a bit of attention in order for him to stay connected to his mum for the duration of the class. Very proud of Sarah for keeping her cool and piloting him around the ring in a controlled manner. They were certainly not disgraced!
Unfortunately we didn't see Casey in his class as we had to shoot off to the Skye ring but were informed he went very well.
The trip across the showground with all our paraphernalia was a bit of a haul but Badger soon put a smile on our weary faces by winning the RCC, so proud of our little lad. Proud also of Isla who , although she was on her own put in a super performance .
A tiring day but good to meet up with some familiar faces again.
Lovely day , good company and great tented areas for showing in sunshine and torrential rain! Hal seemed to be enoying himself, Casey went well and we were pleased that the girls were placed very highly in the biggest class of the day. Hal was also pulled out in the last 6 in the Pup of the Year Stakes under judge Tom Mather. Thanks to our breed judge today who was Mrs. Sue Bird ( Bridus).
Critique:
this kennel is consistent & always manages to bring out quality stock over the years. This lovely bitch is exceptionally feminine, beautiful outline showing excellent construction & in superb coat & condition, lovely bone, excellent hindquarters showing a good second thigh, good hocks & well padded feet enabled her to move out soundly with little effort. | |
Travelling mid week in the heat is not our favourite occupation but we did stay in a lovely country pub with good food and some light liquid refreshment. Really pleased with Hal who was the epitome of a well brought up young man ( unlike his father who brought shame on the Kilfinan kennel when he first "stayed over " as he couldn't hold his own water!). Windsor is always a delightful well laid out and well run show and the tented accommodation was great as it provided much needed shade. All the dogs went well despite the heat and we were delighted with their placings, particularly the girls coming 1st and 2nd in a quality Limit class . Hal didn't make his Stakes class but he had done quite enough . Thanks to our judge for the day , all rounder Mrs. Stella Clarke ( Astrellita) who did a sterling job with a broken wrist !
Image:
Another lovely day out at Cheshire Show where they do seem to be blessed with good weather. Only 3 Beardies entered and the Open Stakes class clashed with the Group so Tony and Flash had to leave mid class. Maybe he should have stayed as he didn't appeal to the Group judge ! Hal didn't catch her eye either but we did receive some nice ringside comments and they both couldn't have gone better . There is always another day and we did enjoy meeting up with fellow dog lovers and sitting in the sun which is always a bonus! Breed judge was Mr Geoff Duffield ( Myriehew/ Angelfield), Stakes judge Mr. Mark Cocozza and Group judge Mrs. Patsy Hollins ( Gunalt) .
At last we were outdoors with a fabulous ring. The girls went well, particularly Shona who didn't look out of place with the big girls in her first Open class and Casey who looked super in the biggest class; so very proud of them. Thanks to Mrs. Robynne Wood ( Osmart) who judged them today.
Lovely day , relaxed atosphere, good company lots of laughs and great results. Scarlett nearly didn't go and is still awaiting her new uniform so we were particularly delighted with her performance. Hal enjoyed himself and made some new friends although not sure they were too happy with his furtive rooting around in their private property! Many thanks to our judge all rounder Nicola Spencer ( Bannonbrig) for her awards today.
Thought we would head out to Ruthin on a lovely but breezy sunny morning to give Harvey a trip out. Despite arriving soaked in sick and drool , managed to get him cleaned up as best we could and he behaved impeccably to win the Puppy Class and BPIS! Delighted with the lad. Scarlett nearly missed the Pastoral and Working Class as her handler had gone to the loo (!) but also went well to take 2nd behind the eventual BIS . Nice morning! Many thanks to our judge Sue Bairstow.
Image:
Relaxing day at Crewe where we had entered Scarlett to remind her what shows were about! She enjoyed her day, showed extremely well and didn't do too badly considering she looks like a patchwork quilt! Delighted with Isla who went well considering she bored as she was in the ring in the afternoon after a 4 hour wait. Our judges were Marianne Grindley ( Lanrue) judging Pastoral breeds and Mr. Chell judging Terriers .
Long trip, long tiring day but worth the effort to see Hal and Fern perform so well . Hal is so laid back and just loves everyone. His favourite trick is dipping his nose into strangers bags to see what they might have to eat as he is so undernourished and obviously we don't feed him (!). Think we should change his name from Kilfinan Prince Hal to Kilfinan The Thief !
Many thanks to our judge for the day , one of our top UK and International all rounders Mr. Andrew Brace ( Tragband).

Terrier day and ours did not disappoint. They showed well to achieve very creditable places under breed judge Mr. Max King and Stakes judge Mrs. Stella Clarke ( Astrellita).
Not our finest hour but all the dogs performed beautifully , particularly Fern and Shona who didn't put a paw wrong .They didn't catch the eye of the judge on the day but we were still so proud of them.
Our judge for the day was all rounder Mr. John Ritchie ( Hollibell/Dykebar). We were delighted with Hal who went well enough to be pulled out for a second look in the Puppy Stakes by judge Mrs. Stella Clarke ( Astrellita)

Wow, what a fabulous day . Couldn't have asked more from our dogs today especially the pups who took all in their stride. Hunter thought everyone was there to play with and Hal thought they were all there to feed him!
Absolutely over the moon and can't thank the judges enough for their awards. The judges today were: breed specialists Mrs. Chris Hardy ( Otterswish) and Miss Emma Bird ( Bridus) and one of our top all rounders Mr. Vic Salt ( Woodlyn)
Image:
Well what a fabulous day at Chester ! Hunter thoroughly enjoyed his little self and provided Tony with a challenge in the ring but did us proud in the end. Absolutely delighted with the lad. Harry went well but has managed to wreck his coat so wasn't looking his best! Nice to see a puppy enjoying his day out! Thanks Sarah for looking after our lads so well and thanks to our judges for the day , Mrs. Jean Franks for breed and Mr. Jeff Thomas ( Richjoy) for Group and BIS.
Image:
Gorgeous Spring day and we were inside! Hal coped well with his first ch. show and was confident in the ring which is all that can be asked of such a baby. PLeased with his performance as we were with Fern's. Thanks to our judge for the placings, Breed specialist, Mrs. Cath Moffatt ( Kyleca).
Image:
We didn't enter this show but went along to support Sarah as she had entered Hunter and Harry . We were over the moon when our judge , Irene Feely, awarded Hunter BP and PG1 . He coped so well with the whole show atmosphere and thoroughly enjoyed his day out right to the end. Thanks must go to to Sarah for taking such good care of our lads!
Image:
Well, what a fabulous and unexpected start for Hal! Just hoped he would enoy his day out and he did but made it a day to remember for us too! Bless him, he took it all in his stride . Isla and Badger were not disgraced and we had some lovely comments from our judges who were: Richard Bott judging Pastoral breeds , Jason Lynn ( Afterglow) judging Skyes, Mike Gadsby ( Afterglow) judging the Terrier Group and Kevin Young ( Sunkap) judging BIS and Stakes. many, many thanks to them for thinking so highly of our dogs today.

We were looking forward to the most important show in the Terrier calendar but wasn't expecting it to be such a fabulous one for us! Both dogs showed beautifully, couldn't have asked more from them and Badger was in a class of quality so we couldn't be disappointed in his place but Isla exceeded all expectations . We were so proud of her, she took it all in her lovely long stride and was still showing her little socks off late in the afternoon for BPIS where she was amongst some superb puppies many of whom will undoubtably be future champions. Thought she might have been tired when we brought her home but she still had energy to spare when she was reunited with her best mates , Hal and Harvey (the 6 mth Beardie pups!).
Many, many thanks to our breed judge , specialist Mr. Bob Cross ( Tarscavaig) and to our BPIS judge , one of the Country's top terrier specialists Mrs. Lesley Crawley ( Ragus).
A day to truly remember and savour!
Critique from Bob Cross :
" This 11months puppy stood out in this class and has surely a very successful show career ahead of her. Sweetest of heads with lovely dark eye , correct scissor bite and with very attentive well fringed ears to finish the picture.Lovely neck and run in to an excellent front assembly , she has very well proportioned rib to loin balance giving that classical of a young Skye bitch. Good muscling for her age in a nicely angulated set of quarters allowing such precise and consistent movement, flowing in profile and so true fore and aft. beautifully put down and so sympathetically handled I was delighted to see her placed Puppy Group 4 at the end of the day. Definately one for the future. "
Image:
Early start , long trip and a lost hour but worth every second to see Badger take his first CC. So proud of both him and Isla who was a little spooked but it didn't stop her from performing well.
Many thanks to our judge Breed Specialist Mrs. Monica Barraclough (Wemoway) for a memorable day.
Critique from Monica Barraclough :
"Wow! what a quality class of mature dogs .
1. Burscough's Glorfindel Secret Shadow of Kilfinan , this dog stood out and could not be denied his placing . Dk silver , absolute corect size to the standard, level stood and topline balanced on the move. Head full of strength , correct earset, big teeth, alert expression, good muzzle with no coarseness, good length of neck, slightly arched into well laid shoulders, all male but not overdone in any respect. Deep chest , strong and straight forelegs, big pads. Moved determinedly in tune with his handler. DCC."
A long day awaited us at Deane as we were entered in the first class of the day, and the last! but it was great to meet up with Carol and Kevin Horrocks and our (not so) little Alfie. As they only live 10 mins from the venueI they very kindly brought him along to visit his Auntie Hettie and big sister Fern. It was a cold and snowy day but warm inside and the committee certainly know how to cater for their exhibitors with bacon batches and lots of home made cakes so it wasn't too much of a hardship and the girls all did us proud so it was worth it. Our judges today were Breed Judge Ms. Julie Edwards ( Elshajo), Group Judge Mrs. Jenny Peters ( Jepechis) and BIS judge Mr. David Howarth (Arkview). Delighted to win a super shoulder bag specifically embroidered for BIS from Big Paws Embroidery which was a lovely surprise!
Image:
Nice relaxed show and we were pleased with Isla and Badger today, they both went well and we couldn't have asked more from them. Badger was pulled out in the last 7 for BIS in a strong line up. Thanks to our judges who were Mr. Robin Searle (Surlson) judging Terriers and Mrs. A. Hassock (Camanna) judging Varieties and BIS.
